Plumbing

Residential, commercial, new construction, and emergency plumbing.

Do you handle both residential and commercial plumbing?
Yes. We handle residential projects (new home construction, bathroom and kitchen remodels, repairs, fixture upgrades) as well as commercial plumbing for offices, schools, churches, multi-dwelling buildings, and ADA-compliant restroom upgrades. No project is too small or too large.
What are signs I need to call a plumber?
Call a plumber promptly if you notice:

  • Water stains or damp spots on ceilings or walls
  • Unusually high water bills with no change in usage
  • Low water pressure throughout the home
  • Sewage smell or gurgling sounds from drains
  • Frozen or burst pipes during cold snaps
  • No hot water or inconsistent water temperature

If you’re unsure whether something is serious, it’s always worth a call — small leaks can become big damage quickly.

How often should a water heater be replaced?
Most conventional tank water heaters last 8–10 years. Tankless water heaters can last longer if maintained properly. Signs that your water heater is failing include rust-colored water, rumbling noises, leaks around the base, or inconsistent hot water. If your unit is over 10 years old, we recommend planning for replacement before it fails during a North Dakota winter.
Can you install in-floor radiant heat?
Yes — it’s one of our specialties. We design and install in-floor radiant piping for homes, basements, garages, shops, and commercial buildings. Radiant heat warms the floor directly, which means warmer feet, reduced energy costs, no drafts, and no dust circulation. Learn more on our plumbing services page.
Do you service boilers?
Yes. We specialize in hot water heating systems. We install new boilers, replace aging units, and retrofit existing systems with modern controls. If your current boiler is more than 15–20 years old, talk to us about replacement options — modern systems are significantly more efficient.
What should I do if a pipe bursts?
Act quickly:

  • Shut off the main water supply to your home (usually near the water meter or where the line enters the house)
  • Turn off electricity to any affected areas if water is near outlets or electrical panels
  • Move valuables away from the water
  • Call us at 701-222-2155 for 24/7 emergency plumbing service

We’ll dispatch a technician as quickly as possible to stop the damage and make repairs.

Heating & Furnaces

Furnace installation, repair, and winter heating in Bismarck-Mandan.

How often should I have my furnace serviced?
We recommend professional furnace maintenance once per year, ideally in late summer or early fall before you need it most. North Dakota winters are tough on heating systems, and annual maintenance extends equipment life, catches issues early, maintains efficiency, and keeps the manufacturer warranty valid on most systems.
My furnace isn't keeping up — is it time to replace it?
A few things to consider:

  • Age: Most furnaces last 15–20 years. Past that, efficiency drops and repairs pile up.
  • Rising energy bills: If your gas bill has crept up with no change in usage, an aging or failing furnace is often the cause.
  • Uneven heating: Cold spots, rooms that won’t warm up, or a furnace that runs constantly all point to problems.
  • Frequent repairs: If you’ve spent more than half the cost of replacement on repairs in the last year or two, replacement is usually the better investment.

We’ll come out, inspect your system, and give you an honest recommendation — repair or replace. No pressure.

What size furnace do I need?

Proper sizing depends on your home’s square footage, insulation quality, window efficiency, ceiling height, and layout. An oversized furnace cycles too often and wastes energy; an undersized one runs constantly and still won’t keep up. We perform a load calculation on every new installation to size the system correctly – not just a rule of thumb.

Do you install Bryant furnaces?
Yes. We’re a Bryant dealer and install their full range of high-efficiency furnaces. Bryant is one of the most reliable names in HVAC with strong warranties and parts availability. We also service other major brands if you already have a furnace from another manufacturer.
My furnace went out in the middle of the night. What do I do?
Call us at 701-222-2155 — we provide 24/7 emergency heating service. In the meantime:

  • Open cabinet doors under sinks and along exterior walls to prevent pipes from freezing
  • Let faucets drip slightly to keep water moving
  • Close off rooms you’re not using to concentrate warmth
  • If you have a fireplace or space heater, use them safely per manufacturer instructions

We’ll get a technician out as quickly as possible.

Air Conditioning

Central AC installation, repair, and summer cooling.

When is the best time to install a new AC?
Spring and early summer are ideal — temperatures are mild, scheduling is flexible, and you’re ready before the first heat wave. However, we install AC systems year-round. If your current system fails mid-summer, we’ll work quickly to get you cool again.
How long does a central air conditioner last?
A well-maintained central AC unit typically lasts 12–17 years in North Dakota’s climate. Regular maintenance (annual tune-ups, clean filters, clear outdoor unit) can extend life. If your AC is over 12 years old and struggling, replacement is often more economical than continued repairs — and modern units are significantly more efficient.
Should I repair or replace my AC?
A common rule: if the repair costs more than half the price of a new system AND the unit is more than 10 years old, replacement usually makes more financial sense. Other replacement triggers include uses R-22 refrigerant (phased out, very expensive), uneven cooling, high humidity indoors, or repeated breakdowns. We’ll give you an honest repair-vs-replace recommendation.
How can I lower my AC bills?
Several proven tactics:

  • Change air filters every 1–3 months
  • Schedule annual professional maintenance
  • Install a programmable or smart thermostat
  • Seal ductwork leaks (AeroSeal duct sealing can reduce waste by up to 30%)
  • Keep outdoor unit clear of grass, leaves, and debris
  • Use ceiling fans to supplement cooling (set thermostat a few degrees warmer)
  • Close blinds during peak sun hours
Why is my AC freezing up?
A frozen AC usually means one of: a dirty air filter restricting airflow, low refrigerant (indicates a leak), a dirty evaporator coil, or a blower motor problem. Turn the system off to let it thaw, replace the filter, and call us. Running a frozen system can damage the compressor — an expensive repair.

Geothermal Systems

Earth-source heating and cooling for maximum efficiency.

What is a geothermal system?
A geothermal heat pump uses the stable temperature of the earth (about 55°F a few feet underground) to heat and cool your home. Pipes buried in your yard circulate fluid that transfers heat to or from the ground. It’s one heating and cooling system, powered by the earth, and dramatically more efficient than traditional systems.
How much can geothermal save on energy bills?
Geothermal systems typically reduce heating and cooling costs by 50–70% compared to conventional systems. The exact savings depend on your current system’s efficiency, local utility rates, and your home’s insulation. Many Bismarck-Mandan homeowners see their systems pay for themselves in 7–12 years through energy savings alone.
Is geothermal worth the upfront cost?
Geothermal has a higher upfront cost than conventional HVAC, but the long-term math usually works out well:

  • 50–70% lower energy bills for 25+ years
  • Indoor equipment typically lasts 25+ years (vs. 15 for a furnace)
  • Ground loops can last 50+ years
  • Federal tax credits cover 30% of installation cost (as of 2026)
  • Potential state and utility rebates
  • Increases home resale value

It’s a long-term investment best suited to homeowners planning to stay 7+ years or building a new custom home.

Do I have enough yard for a geothermal loop?
Not necessarily. There are two main loop types:

  • Horizontal loops need more land but are less expensive to install — good for larger rural Bismarck-Mandan properties.
  • Vertical loops use deep boreholes and fit on smaller urban lots — common in Bismarck city neighborhoods.

We’ll assess your property and recommend the best loop configuration.

Can I retrofit geothermal into an existing home?
Yes, in most cases. We assess your home’s existing ductwork, insulation, and electrical service to determine what (if any) upgrades are needed. Retrofits are more disruptive than new-construction installation, but absolutely doable for existing Bismarck homes.

Bathroom Remodeling

Design, fixtures, and full bathroom renovation.

How long does a bathroom remodel take?
Typical timelines:

  • Fixture replacement (tub, toilet, vanity): 1–3 days
  • Mid-scope remodel (new shower, fixtures, flooring): 2–3 weeks
  • Full remodel (layout changes, plumbing relocation, custom tile): 4–8 weeks

Timelines depend on project scope, material availability, and any coordination needed with carpenters, electricians, or tile installers. We give you a realistic schedule up front and keep you updated throughout.

How much does a bathroom remodel cost?
Bathroom remodel costs vary widely based on scope, fixtures, and finishes. A basic refresh can start around a few thousand dollars; a full custom remodel with premium materials can run significantly higher. We provide detailed itemized estimates so you understand exactly what you’re paying for — fixtures, labor, materials, and any subcontracted trades.
Do you handle the design or just the installation?
Both. Our in-house team provides custom consulting and design — we visit your home, assess the space, discuss your vision, and help you select fixtures, finishes, and materials. We then handle the plumbing, fixture installation, and coordinate with trusted local partners for carpentry, electrical, flooring, and custom tile.
Will I be without a bathroom during the remodel?
If it’s your only bathroom, we work with you to minimize downtime — usually a few critical days without function rather than weeks. If you have a second bathroom, you’ll rely on that one during construction. We plan phases carefully and communicate clearly so you know what to expect each day.

Sheet Metal Fabrication

Custom fabrication from our Bismarck shop.

What can you fabricate in your sheet metal shop?
We fabricate a wide range of custom items:

  • Custom ductwork for residential and commercial HVAC
  • Architectural sheet metal and custom trim
  • Stainless steel countertops and bar modifications
  • Specialty metal components to your specifications
  • Replacement parts that are no longer manufactured
  • HVAC fittings, transitions, and specialty pieces

If you can describe or sketch it, chances are we can build it.

What materials do you work with?
We fabricate in stainless steel, copper, aluminum, galvanized steel, and color-clad metals. Different applications call for different metals — we’ll help you choose the right material for your project based on durability, appearance, and budget.
Can I just stop by the shop?

Absolutely. Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Our shop is at 2510 Vermont Ave in Bismarck. Bring drawings, photos, or even the broken part you need replaced — our fabrication team loves solving interesting challenges.

What is your plasma cutting capability?
Our Advanced Cutting System uses a 5-foot by 10-foot table with a plasma cutting head that moves at speeds up to 450–500 inches per minute. The software nests parts efficiently to minimize material waste. This means we can produce precision cuts for complex shapes quickly and economically.
Do you do one-off projects or only large runs?
Both. We handle one-off custom pieces (replacement parts, single specialty items) as well as production runs for contractors and commercial clients. There’s no minimum order.

Duct Sealing

AeroSeal technology to stop energy waste.

How does AeroSeal duct sealing work?
AeroSeal seals duct leaks from the inside:

  • All registers and grilles are temporarily blocked off
  • A non-toxic sealant is injected into the duct system as a fine mist
  • Air pressure pushes the sealant particles to the leak points
  • The particles build up at each leak until it’s completely sealed
  • The whole process is computer-monitored with real-time leak measurements

You get before-and-after numbers showing exactly how much leakage was sealed. No demolition required.

How much can duct sealing save me?
The average home wastes up to 30% of heated and cooled air through duct leaks. AeroSeal typically seals 90%+ of those leaks. Homeowners commonly see 10–20% reductions in heating and cooling bills, plus improved comfort and cleaner indoor air. Actual savings depend on how leaky your ducts were to start.
How long does the process take?
A typical residential AeroSeal treatment takes 4–8 hours. You’ll need to be out of the house (or at least out of the affected areas) during the process due to temporary odor from the sealant, which dissipates shortly after. We’ll give you a precise time estimate during your assessment.
Is the sealant safe?
Yes. AeroSeal’s sealant is non-toxic, water-based, and has been tested and approved for use in residential and commercial HVAC systems. It’s the same technology used in hospitals and other sensitive environments. After the process, there’s no lingering health concern — just sealed ducts.
How do I know if I have leaky ducts?
Common signs of duct leakage include:

  • Rooms that are always too hot or too cold
  • Excessive dust, even after cleaning
  • Higher-than-expected energy bills
  • Humidity issues
  • HVAC system running longer than it should
  • Older home (more than 20 years old)

We offer duct leakage assessments to give you a definitive answer and measure exactly how much air you’re losing.

Whole-Home Humidification

Managing indoor humidity through North Dakota winters.

Why do I need a humidifier in Bismarck winters?
Cold air holds less moisture, and your heating system further dries the air. Typical Bismarck winter indoor humidity without a humidifier can drop to 10–20%, far below the recommended 30–50%. Low humidity causes dry skin, sinus issues, static electricity, cracked hardwood floors, split furniture, and can even let viruses survive longer in the air.
Whole-home vs portable humidifiers — which is better?
Portable humidifiers only humidify the room they’re in, need frequent refilling, often promote mold if not cleaned, and are loud. A whole-home Aprilaire humidifier integrates with your furnace, humidifies every room automatically, connects to your home’s water supply (no refilling), and is controlled by a single humidistat. For most homes, whole-home is the clear winner.
What humidity level should I keep my home at?
Aim for 30–50% relative humidity indoors. In the coldest part of Bismarck winter, you may need to drop toward the lower end to prevent window condensation. Modern Aprilaire humidifiers have automatic outdoor temperature sensors that adjust target humidity for you, preventing window condensation issues.
Does a humidifier need maintenance?
Yes, but minimal. Aprilaire humidifiers need an annual water panel (evaporator pad) replacement, usually done during your yearly HVAC tune-up. We can add humidifier maintenance to any service call.
Can a humidifier save me money on heating?
Yes, indirectly. Humid air feels warmer than dry air at the same temperature. Many homeowners can comfortably lower their thermostat by 2–3 degrees after installing a humidifier, which reduces heating costs. It also protects your home’s woodwork and furniture from dry-air damage — a separate long-term savings.
